The rights of the personal care assistant
It is important that the personal care assistants are satisfied
and happy in their work. The work of a live-in personal care
assistant can be a very rewarding, enriching and privileged occupation.
However, like any position, it also has its unique challenges
and demands. We know that it is impossible to give of one’s
best if one is tired, stressed or over-worked. Managed correctly
by both client and personal care assistant, the working relationship
is ideally a mutually rewarding and long-term one.
|
We ask that our clients keep the following in mind:
|
| |
|
1
|
Personal care assistants are normal people with normal
emotions. They get tired. They get down. Consideration
for your personal care assistant’s feelings will
go a long way to ensuring a fulfilling experience for both
of you.
|
2
|
Keep all lines of communication as open and direct as
possible. Do not assume anything.
|
3
|
Have house rules (understood and signed by each new
assistant). People need to know their boundaries.
|
4
|
Your personal care assistant is paid to help you live
independently, but for the assistant to feel appreciated
by the client makes his/her work so much more enjoyable.
|
5
|
Respect for each other’s person is of the utmost
importance.
